I am a self taught artist who has traveled across Canada, taking pictures along the way. The beauty of the Canadian Maritimes often appears as themes in my works. The stone work of Old Montreal and Quebec City facinate me. Living in Calgary, with the Canadian Rockies in our backyard, is also a frequent inspiration in my paintings. Kananaskis country and the surrounding foothills often inspire my paintings. My garden, crazy as it is, often finds its way into my work.
I start by looking at a blank canvas, and it tells me what to paint. The painting above, A Garden Path started this way. Its my largest painting to date, but I knew the finished painting when I saw the blank canvas. Inspired by my garden, with my wooden gate replaced by one made of stone. Of course, on the other side of my fence lays the street, but on this canvas the arch leads to a wonderful summer day.
